What is Globe Valve?
A globe valve is a type of linear-motion valve used for regulating, starting, and stopping the flow of a fluid in a pipeline. It gets its name from the shape of its body, which is globular or cylindrical. Globe valves are commonly used in various industries, including oil and gas, petrochemical, water treatment, and manufacturing.
The main components of a globe valve include a movable disk or plug (referred to as the valve’s closure element), a stationary ring seat, a stem, and a handwheel or actuator. The stem is connected to the closure element and is responsible for raising and lowering it into or out of the flow path. When the valve is fully open, the closure element is positioned parallel to the flow, allowing for maximum flow. Conversely, when the valve is fully closed, the closure element is perpendicular to the flow, blocking it entirely.
Globe valves are known for their precise control of flow rates and are suitable for applications that require throttling or fine-tuned regulation. They are available in different designs, such as Tee Pattern (Z-body), Angle Pattern, and Wye Pattern (Y-body), each with its specific advantages and use cases. Globe valves are widely used in systems where pressure drop and flow control accuracy are critical considerations.
Arrotop’s globe valves offer reliable and precise flow control solutions tailored to meet the demands of various industrial applications. With a focus on quality and innovation, Arrotop delivers products that ensure superior performance and longevity.
There are three main body designs for Globe valves, namely the Tee Pattern or Z-body, Angle Pattern, and Wye Pattern or Y-body.

A Globe valve is a type of linear motion valve specifically designed for the purposes of stopping, starting, and regulating flow. The valve’s disk has the capability to be entirely removed from the flowpath or can completely obstruct the flowpath when necessary.
Traditional Globe valves find application in both isolation and throttling services. While these valves may have slightly higher pressure drops compared to straight-through valves (such as gate, plug, or ball valves), they are suitable for situations where the pressure drop through the valve is not a critical factor.
The practical size limit for Globe valves is NPS 12 (DN 300) due to the fact that the entire system pressure acting on the disc is transmitted to the valve stem. Globe valves larger than NPS 12 (DN 300) are exceptional rather than common. The reason is that handling larger valves would necessitate exerting enormous forces on the stem to open or close the valve under pressure. Despite this, Globe valves in sizes up to NPS 48 (DN 1200) have been manufactured and employed.
Globe valves are widely utilized for flow control purposes. In the design of these valves, factors such as the range of flow control, pressure drop, and duty must be carefully considered to prevent premature failure and ensure satisfactory service. For valves exposed to high-differential pressure throttling service, specialized valve trim is necessary for optimal performance.
